Interesting Article on Running and the Aging Process

STANFORD, Calif. — Regular running slows the effects of aging, according to a new study from the Stanford University School of Medicine that has tracked 500 older runners for more than 20 years. Elderly runners have fewer disabilities, a longer span of active life and are half as likely as aging nonrunners to die early deaths, the research found.

week 11 - hot and humid

As the day getting shorter, it's also getting darker in the morning. I missed my bus, I thought I was on time but I think the bus came in a little early. I ended up taking a cab.

I knew it's going to be hot and humid day so I brought my new hydration belt. It's very important for me to stay hydrated. They were couple of people in my group who dropped out in a few miles. I wasn't sure why, maybe it's because of the heat. Running 16 to 20 miles in the heat is very tough.

My performance last Saturday was amazingly satisfactory. I finished the last mile running up the hill. I was a bit tired at the end but I felt really good.

After my long runs, I soak my legs in an icy cold baths for about 15 minutes. The ice keeps the inflammation under control. It's very soothing and it's very relaxing.

See you next week. Happy running.

week 10 - just nice

I've noticed the day are getting shorter and summer will be over before you knew it. The weather has been nice and breezy.

I've been sleeping late lately watching the Olympics. I need to start going to bed early. Last Saturday morning was hard for me to get up because I was up a little late. I need to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

I am amazed that I made it through last Saturday running over 18 miles. I finished strong and I ran the last miles up in the hill. I was very pleased with my performance.

See you next week. Happy running.

week 9 - cool and pleasant

I woke up feeling tired Saturday morning because I ran ten miles the night before. I don't think that was such a good idea. I didn't feel like going to my training but I know that I have to. My chi was just not there. I know it was only in my mind but I need to feel my energy. So I stayed focus on my priorities and goals.

I used my new training shoes yesterday and it was fine. We're almost half way through our marathon training. The miles are getting longer and tougher. There wasn't a lot of runners yesterday, perhaps because most of them are running today's Chicago Distance Classic half marathon. It was a beautiful day for a race, the weather was cool and pleasant.

Overall, my run yesterday was just fine. I was feeling tired in the beginning but I finished strong.

See you next week. Happy running.

week 8 - sunny, cool and breezy day

It was a beautiful morning for running. Lincoln Park was packed with marathon runners training for marathon. I can't help but looked at some of the fast runners, I admire them.

I was a little worried on my performance yesterday because I only had a few hours of sleep. I went out the night before with Robin and some friends. I had fun but I will never ever do that again. Friday evening is absolutely off limit!

I tried power gel yesterday, I had vanilla and caffeine free power gel. I was surprised, they taste quite good. But, I don't know what so special about it, I didn't feel anything at all. I will give it a try again next week and see if it gives me any kind of power.

Overall, yesterday's run was just fine. I didn't run up the hill, I was running a little low at the end. When I got home, I was completely exhausted. I took a shower, had my breakfast then took a power nap. Never underestimate the power of sleep.

See you next week. Happy running.

my new training shoes

Hurray! I got a new training shoes, it's the same one I had before but just different colour. It is one of the best shoes I've had and I'm sticking to it. It's always best to changed and alternate your shoes to prevent running injury. Remember to buy your new running shoes before your old ones are completely finished. To break my new running shoes, I usually wear them for walks and short distance run until I feel completely comfortable with it.

Happy running.
