happy easter

Easter is a special time of year for most people. When I think of easter, I think of family fun, easter egg hunts and nice sunday brunch. This Sunday, I'm going to color and hide some eggs. I think it's going to be fun. My husband will have to hunt the eggs. I can't wait!

So spring has finally arrived on March 20th at 12:48 a.m. to be precise. It was a nice, sunny welcome to spring. I would have liked to say, "goodbye winter, hello spring", but today it snowed up to 3 inches. It's beautiful but also it's a mess outside. I've been looking forward to spring. I was ready to put away my snow boots but it looks like I'm going to use them for at least a few days.

Over the last couple of days, I've reached a milestone by running a total of 503 miles for 79 runs, with my NikePlus. I couldn't be more pleased. My base training is doing well, I've been running 30-35 miles a week and 35-40 miles every other week. As a runner, nutrition is very important. My typical diet consists of whole wheat pasta or brown rice, legumes, fish, soft boiled eggs, fruits and vegetables. I drink about 2 to 3 litres of water a day. For me, I run to eat not eat to run. Eat well, sleep well, run better.

Happy running and Happy Easter.

spring training

The official first day of spring is on March 20th but today it feels like spring outside. It's a beautiful day. The snow has almost melted and the sun feels really good on my skin.

This spring I will be working on my base training. I need to start off strong. To develop endurance and strength, I'll be doing one or two quality runs a week, such as hills, tempo runs, fartlek and longer runs. My goal is to run at least 45 miles a week.

Happy running.

marathon mania

There are so many things I like about running, three main reasons why -- 1) it keeps me fit and healthy 2) it feeds my competitive spirit and 3) it helps me sort out my thoughts.

On February 12, I signed up and decided to run this years Chicago Marathon (26.2 miles/42.2 km). I'm very excited. This will be my first marathon race. I've been running for twelve years pleasurably when I was in high school and college. Currently, I'm running 35 miles per week. I will begin my training in June.

I'm very grateful of my husband as he is very supportive of me running in the marathon. He will also be my training partner, that's if he can keep up with my running ;)

Happy running.

early memories

My earliest memories of running started when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I grew up spending most of my fun childhood memories outside the house with my friends.

After school and on weekends, I would play games with my friends, such as tagaanay, tumba lata, shatong, patintero, takyan, and bending. Sometimes we would run and race to see who would get to the lamp post first wearing tsinelas (slippers). These games didn't cost anything. All you needed was a wide open space, strong lungs and fast legs because there's a lot of running involved. Sometimes, I would run and chase them like crazy. It was such a fun game. Video games didn't exist in my house then!

I remember watching my dad run on the track when I was 9 or 10. He would wake up early in the morning and I would beg him to take me running. I admired his passion, I thought it was great!
